D*face drops a series of concrete spray cans across London

D*Face managed to drop five large concrete spray cans in locations including Hyde Park, outside the V & A, Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden with a sixth not quite making it.

D*Face was quoted in the London Paper as saying: "It's an art form that's inspired generations and spawned this whole scene where a Banksy can sell for hundreds of thousands and be shown in top galleries and be lauded by the establishment. Yet at the same time, with CCTV and all the Big Brother-style surveillance that's on our streets, it's getting harder to actually create street art where it's meant to be." Full article here.

However, the reaction really interested me. I only managed to make it to Covent Garden and the first question must have been: Why was a barrier put up around the can? To protect the public from walking into a large concrete block (as if there aren't plenty of obstacles in Covent Garden)? Or as I'd rather believe - to protect the art!? Generally, this being a tourist watering hole, very few people took any notice. Oh well.

Except the biggest success for me was probably getting a pensioner interested in street art! After observing me take photos of this thing behind the barriers, she eventually asked why I was so intrigued by the object... after some explaining and history about the artist she perked up and thought it "was rather good". As I was leaving she enthusiastically turned to her friends and proceeded to get very animated about the whole thing. Who knows, maybe the older generation will get involved...
